NaNo Update – Bits and pieces

Well, the roofers were even more distracting than I anticipated, and getting to 50 K before today was a really good idea. Because average wordcount today was not happening.

That said, I did get an outline of “what else needs to come in the story”, and worked on a piece of that today. Sometimes that’s the only way to make progress when you’re really wiped: just find one particular bit of the story that intrigues you, and poke that one. Never mind if it ends up not quite fitting later, that’s what rewrites are for.

…Although if you’re writing from what seems like a plausible outline, always be prepared for the characters to say “Heck no, I’m not going down there and you can’t make me. Can’t we fight smart instead?”

So… outlines get tweaked. A lot.

OTOH, fighting smart = dragging up little-known bits of mythlore to get an edge over the monster. Which can be fun!

  1. So… outlines get tweaked. A lot.

That’s why it’s an outline, not gospel.

AKA I did not do all that research for nothing. See, there it is!
