Earring Tales: Citrus Crush, and MCO5 up on AO3

I wanted something bright and cheery.

Citrus9

Three shades of yellow, and orange. 🙂 The inner chevron beads are “daffodil”. Nice name.

…It’s been raining, gray, and thundery a lot. I needed some bright color. 😉

Also, Monstrous Compendium chapter 5, “Game Unbalanced,” is up on Archive of Our Own.

Stone was grating and Klein was snarling and things were buzzing overhead in the darkness like something out of Attack of the Killer Cicadas.

Oh lord, the tomatoes weren’t enough for the film industry, they had to do it again.

They’re out of their minds. We’re dead. She’s purple, no one’s getting out of this unless they run-

Well you are right about those two being completely out of their minds, fortunately as a side effect Kirito has been grinding like a complete and total lunatic.

    >
Argo and Kirito had done it in less than ten minutes.

That… magic doesn’t work that way, it can’t-

Better get over that shock Stheno, because I have the feeling this is going to be far from the last time the players pull this sort of stunt with magic.

He stabbed up a menu. Hit Dissolve Party.

    And ran.

And that explains why Klein was cursing up a storm. 😦

    1. *Snrks at tomatoes*

And yes. Yes, Kirito is a bit crazy. 😉

No kidding on the cursing. I suspect right now Klein is thinking deep thoughts on finding out whatever destroyed Kirito’s trust in his fellow man being able to protect himself and stabbing the hell out of it.

…If Klein ever figures out part of the problem is Kirito finding out 1) he was adopted and 2) because he survived a car accident his parents didn’t, thus setting up a nasty loop of internal bad tape along the lines of “They couldn’t care about me if they lied, people who really care about me die….”

Well. He may invent whole new curses.

From some of the canon notes, he might have a few extra for the Kirigaya grandfather.

      2. Having not seen or read SAO… Scale of 1 to 10, 10 being Meteor Fall level parenting, how bad was Kirito’s grandfather? Or does this fall under the heading, “Look it up at your own peril.”?

      3. Eh, no worse than 5. The real problem was he kept pushing Kirito to follow “the family tradition” when the kid found out he was adopted. (Adopted by relatives, but still.) Apparently the conflicting ideas there made a confused youngster want nothing but out of the situation.

      4. ….well. When put like that. //Damn.// Bet he could strike a good trade with Argo for some solid Draconic cursing — literal curse optional — for //that// tidbit of information.

      5. >>Not that anyone in MCO knows that tidbit. Except possibly two other medusas…

…Stheno might figure it out if she’s willing to pry via her divination magic, but why on Earth would Yui know? Unless you’re referring to a fourth as-yet-unseen Medusa character knowing for some reason?

  2. Heh. If this were what they are currently thinking, I’d call it a GM-vanity quest. The sort of thing a GM makes up to show off their storytelling and cool NPCs… and which most experienced players tend to loathe.

      1. Xanatos. Gambit. Pileup. They’re //all// up to something! And if Beniryuu hasn’t realized that by now, he’s dumber then I thought he was.

  3. This is my opinion so YMMV but the earring coloration is too simple. Don’t like them. Lately, you have been doing such lovely shadings and color contrasts. When I first started collecting jewelry, I loved having basic colors (this goes with this wardrobe, this goes with that). Now, I rarely buy jewelry unless it is subtle enough and unique enough that it’s “I’ll never see this again”. So…truly if you want to appeal to a wider audience, it’s a lovely design and the colors are good. But I still don’t like them myself.

AFA your current story is concerned, I’m hanging on. I know FF vii well, but Eberron and SAO online, not so much even after visiting their wikis. I trust you, but I’m missing a lot of clues not being in depth with the either of the universes. BTW I had the same problem with Count Taka (and your one and only Log Horizon story). You can be very elliptical. You avoid the “brain dump” to the point of (maybe) losing that part of your audience that lacks context.

I’m looking at both my comments and noticing the symmetry. I chastise you for unsubtle earrings and too subtle stories. Meh, consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds…

  4. I like the earrings, but I’m currently on my phone and only see 1 shade of yellow with orange in the center. Cute pattern though, makes me think of soda logos.
