Finger in the Eye of Fate – Oops

“What did you do?”

“Who, me?”

Elegant eyes narrowed.

“It was only just a little… the humans probably won’t even notice, much….”

Grab.

“What,” Kanzeon bit out, eye to eye and nose almost squashing Roman nose, “did you do?”

“I made sure Angelus used dragon blood in the spell don’t hurt me!” he babbled.

Deliberately, Kanzeon put him down.

Uh-oh.

“Dragon blood,” se said levelly.

“Well, have you ever tried making a spell channel divine power through a Slayer’s body?” Janus protested. “It’s like making a vampire hold onto a cross. She would have been cinders! I had to make sure there was something that could mediate between the demon and the saint. Can you think of anything better than dragon blood?” He shrugged, shadows dancing. “Besides. Making the spell exotic made it more likely Angelus would actually try it. He’s weird that way.”

“Good argument,” Kanzeon allowed. “But Janus? When was the last time you visited the Dragon Court in Shangri-La?”

“Er… a while ago?” The dragons of Kanzeon’s native realm weren’t all that fond of chaos. Which was a pity. They were beautiful when they were angry.

“And while you were there, did you notice how many dragons have kami blood?”

Janus blinked. “There are dragons with kami ancestors?”

Kanzeon stifled a groan. “You were right. Dragon blood and divine power blends very well. Too well. And even in a human incarnation, that’s my niece down there. My kami niece.”

  1. Ouch.

But at least it did its job, right? Slayer is not burnt to a crisp, right? Everything else can be figured out. And hey, maybe the mayor will get a dragon in the face when he tries to ascend.

Well, if that doesn’t sound like Konzen and Sanzo…

So if Kami and Dragon blood mixes too well, they probably magnify each other. And adding a bit of demon probably makes the already explosive mix unpredictable. Janus, you’ve outdone yourself entirely on accident, and it’s making even Kanzeon wary.

    That’s beautiful.

I’m assuming youkai and demons are not the same, considering Tenpou and Kenren were definitely kami, and ended up youkai in the next incarnation. However delayed that ended up being for Hakkai, and now Giles and Willow. Unless their remaining human blood acts as the buffer somehow?

Which, if the human blood is acting as the buffer, leaves the question of Why Dragon? Not a powerful enough buffer?

  3. That was the spell that was used on Giles and Calender, and only secondarily influencing Xander, Willow, Buffy and Hakuryuu. This is why the Powers That Be can’t have nice things.

  4. Well. I feel better that it wasn’t Kanzeon going ‘oops.’ But Janis will defiantly rue the day he didn’t get a fact checker or run his work bast his beta checker.

On the other hand, the use of dragon blood is probably why we got Hakuryuu so, relatively easily?

So. Demonic Slayer plus Divine Spell equals Pile of Ashes. Got that part of the equation. What Janus tried was Demonic Slayer plus Dragon Blood plus Divine Spell equals Divinely Empowered Slayer. What he got was Demonic Slayer plus Dragon BloodDivine Genetics equals ???? Divine Demon Slayer?

So is Buffy going to start experiancing an all new type of skin condition (of the scaled variety) and that when her nails meet a metal file, the file loses?

I wouldn’t completely bet on that if I were you.

Maybe humans in general wouldn’t notice but this particular set knows very well that missing something hinky is a good way to end up as someone’s lunch. Granted this hasn’t stopped them from still missing Clues and out behavior but in fairness, most of this set are young and still learning about Things That Go Bump In The Night (And Probably Eat Your Face).

    “Dragon blood,” se said levelly.

As scary as se is when se is raging, I would bet that se’s tranquil fury is very more terrifying.

This is why you don’t assume. Especially not with magic and magical creatures. Because you probably not get your expected result – and the result you can get can range anywhere from just plain fizz-out (didn’t work at all) to earth shattering kaboom (or other world-ending disaster).

    My kami niece.

    Oh my . . .

It will (probably) work out fine for our heroes. Once everyone gets past the adjustment phase. Through I get the feeling that adjustment phrase is going to be rather . . . messy.

Normally in these kind of circumstances, I suggest that affected people are taken somewhere without easily breakable things – like cities – but given Sunnydale could do with some re-modeling / new people in charge of certain things . . . I say let them deal with cranky Buffy Sanzo (and probably the rest of them too – the stress relief needs for the Scoobies is going be rather rough on the local demon population . . .)

One demon might be quoted as saying he hadn’t seen devastation like this since that time in Japan when some idiot managed to piss off a wolf, a dragon, a ninja, and a mountain hermit. At the same time. There were more fighters but those four stand out the most in his mind.

  7. See, something else jumps out at me. And it really makes me wonder, but I’m not sure if I can word it clearly.

“And while you were there, did you notice how many dragons have kami blood?

Beyond the question of how many of them are there, how much kami blood did Gojun have? I mean, he had to be pretty powerful considering his position. But he was the only dragon we saw, so we have no others to compare him with.

Kami blood might explain it a bit?

  8. But everybody knows that “dragon blood” is just a kenning for cinnabar. Or alternately, that red plant sap thing. And Angelus is from the time when that wasn’t a very obscure thing to know.

So I kinda question whether Angelus would have used actual blood from actual dragons. I’d be more worried about Buffy getting mercury poisoning.

    1. Dragons do exist in Buffy. See that episode at the end of Angel. So it would just have to be in the context of Demons, and would be interpreted literally.
