Catch a Falling Star 2 Unfinished Ficbit – Sound of Silence

“It’s a step down from flame-throwers, at least,” Ryou said wryly as brother and sister hugged. “Hello, Tristan – is that what I think it is?”

“Oh, Kaiba brought all the fun stuff,” the dark-haired teen nodded, setting down an odd gray plastic wand. “Wait ’til you see the rest of the party favors.”

“Stay in one piece,” Seto concluded. Hanging up, he looked them over. “What happened?”

Ryou offered his slim pile of ID cards. “In case you’re interested, your rooms are being watched.”

“Oh, no.” Serenity stiffened.

“They didn’t see us,” Tea reassured the younger girl as Kaiba all but snatched the plastic from Ryou’s hand. “Bakura had Nemuriko put them to sleep, and we walked right by.”

“They’re gonna be up now, though,” Joey warned. “So we better keep it down.”

“We can do that.” Yugi smiled up at Tea. “Let’s get the main door first.”

“Are you sure this is going to work?” Tea said in an undertone as they neared the door. “I’ve never called anything, what if I mess you up-”

“That’s why I want you to watch,” Yugi said plainly. “You Dueled Mai once, Tea. And you won. The magic’s there. It’s a lot quieter than Joey’s, but it’s there.” Taking her hand, he placed it over his own on the doorframe. “Just hold on. Try to feel what’s happening.”

It felt hot and cold along her bones; summer’s dry heat twinned with the biting dryness of a clear winter’s night.

No, Tea realized, seeing indigo and amethyst curl around their hands, bits of Shadow summoned into this world at Yugi’s call. Not a winter’s night… a desert night?

“Ineb, ger.” Ruby gleamed in violet. Pale fingers traced hieroglyphs down the doorway, leaving a glimmer of gold and Shadows in their wake. “Seba, ger. Seger sheni-en, sha-i!”

  1. “It’s a step down from flame-throwers, at least,”

That might only be because Seto prefers to use dragons instead of flame-throwers these days.

Hanging up, he looked them over. “What happened?”

Like how he knows that SOMETHING happened with just one look.

Of course, Seto might have just assumed SOMETHING happened since he has also been through enough situations to know when Murphy is giggling at him.

Kaiba all but snatched the plastic from Ryou’s hand.

Be interesting to see what Kaiba can pull from those IDs.

    … a desert night?

    Likely.

Deserts can get very cold during the night, even during the summer months.

“Ineb, ger.” Ruby gleamed in violet. Pale fingers traced hieroglyphs down the doorway, leaving a glimmer of gold and Shadows in their wake. “Seba, ger. Seger sheni-en, sha-i!”

Be interesting to see what NID makes that.

Guess it depends on weather or not they heard the Ancient Egyptian . . . or know enough to recognize Ancient Egyptian when they hear it.

Still getting nothing but silence on their equipment is going get some kind of reaction.

      1. Of course something happened. It’s them.

Individually, they are nexus of extra-natural activity. Especially Yugi & Yami.

Between their trouble-attracting ability and Daniel’s trouble-attracting ability, that poor hotel never stood a chance.

I think the only hotel in the multiverse with even less chance of survival is one unfortunate to be hosting Alan and Simon and their respective Households when Murphy decides that their lives haven’t been interesting enough lately and sends something VERY interesting their way.

      2. “And they left it right there. And over there. And some that way . . .”

        “. . .”

(Alan, whose survival instincts are in many ways much sharper than Simon’s, decides to hide and leave explaining what happened to Jafar to said purple-haired king. It was his fault anyway.)

  2. Oh dear… The NID is going to run smack into the X-Men at some point. And then the X-Men are going to meet Jack. Ack!

…and then someone’s going to realize the Pharaoh got caught on candid alien-spy camera doing magic, and things are gonna get //real// interesting.

  3. This conversation really isn’t going to convince NID to change their initial assessment of Kaiba’s character and leisure activities.

Probably says more about NID’s character than anything else. “Perverts gonna perve” and all that.

  4. I’m… Amused but not really surprised that Ryou recognized the bug-detector on site (and Tristan, you better have finished your sweep before you put that down!) but Téa didn’t.

I imagine most everyone present can guess what it is, but I wonder whether Joey or Yugi would recognize it right away like Ryou did.

  5. -The magic’s there. It’s a lot quieter than Joey’s, but it’s there-
Also I imagine Tea’s magic is of the lighter side of shadows. That is in comparison to Bakura’s darker and the pure shadow of Yami/the Pharaoh.

Though I can see a potential plot hook/setup here. Remember that Amaunet (here at least) picks women with magic which is why she chose Sha’re. What are the odds that she’d try to grab Tea as a backup/replacement host when she comes to earth?

      1. -Ooooh, I can see the explosions already. –
Particularly in the case of any snake trying to grab Tea. Remember that ‘simple’ protection spell Yami placed on her?

Soloman (who has experience with protective spells etc) got Tea’s permission to ‘trace’ the spell in order to get an idea of how good they were. He had the freely given go-ahead from the person they were protecting, has prior experience with magic and was no doubt being as careful as possible.

The things still blew him across the kitchen when he ‘poked’ them.

If that’s the response to a benign examination of the spell, what’s going to happen when a Goa’uld tries to borrow into Tea?

I can see the section of the Ha’tak she’s being held on just sort of vaporizing.

  6. I have to admit, I had a brief horrid moment where “But we know Tea’s a priestess.”, too much of Ellen Brand’s fic burrowed into my head. But I like the way this is going, yes.

And yes, poor Goa’uld, getting exactly what they deserve.

    1. Well being a magic-user doesn’t preclude Tea from being a priestess. After all Seth had a ton of magic/was a sorcerer and was the High Priest of Yami’s court.
