Catch a Falling Star 2 Unfinished Ficbit – Nine-Tenths

“I don’t know a lot,” Tristan admitted. “I’m not sure Tetien ever knew too much about them. It was a high court problem. A temple problem, not-” he hesitated.

“Not a matter for the iretey new per-a’a,” Bakura said darkly. “So much for Pharaoh’s justice.”

“Look, I tried, all right? I-” Tristan buried his head in his hands. “Tetien tried, Bakura. We were just too damn late!

“Hang in there, buddy.” Joey gripped the brunet’s shoulder. “It’s over, remember? We can’t go back. All we can fix is now.”

“It still hurts.” Tristan knuckled his forehead, blew out a breath. “I know… they would come from the sky. That the best thing was to send Monsters against them in the air, before their demon-warriors could land. And if you couldn’t do that, you shot them, and you never, ever went near the bodies. Because… once they got to the ground… they could take people. Possess them.”

“Demons.” Bakura studied blue eyes fixed on a computer screen. “So it was a temple matter.”

“No,” Kaiba said shortly.

A silvery brow arched. “If any of us would carry that memory of the past, sorcerer-”

“I. Remember. Nothing.”

White brows shaped a cynical arch. “So you say, hem-netjer-tepey Seth.”

Seto’s eyes narrowed to azure ice.

Tea gripped Yami’s hand, trying to think of some way, any way, to head off the oncoming explosion.

“Stop it!” Serenity pleaded. “Please?” She huddled near her brother, quaking at the chill of amber eyes. “What did we ever do to you to make you hate us this much?”

Bakura hesitated. Looked aside. “Tell her to stop shivering, Wheeler,” he growled. “I don’t attack children.”

“So,” Yami said, while Tea took a breath of relief. “Kaiba. What danger do you see that we do not?”

  1. “Not a matter for the iretey new per-a’a,” Bakura said darkly. “So much for Pharaoh’s justice.”

Sometimes you have to divide up tasks into different departments. It makes sense for to have one group of people dealing with the threat beyond the stars, another to deal with crime / danger whose source is closer to home.

If they hadn’t, one or the other or both would get neglected in a dangerous fashion. You could argue that one DID get neglected in a dangerous fashion.

    “I. Remember. Nothing.”

    Denial again?

And we were doing so well on that front.

Through in fairness, Seth probably did know more about the demons from the sky than Tetien did.

Tea gripped Yami’s hand, trying to think of some way, any way, to head off the oncoming explosion.

    Good luck with that.

Maybe it’s his reaction to stress because Bakura seems to be needling people more than usual today.

Bakura hesitated. Looked aside. “Tell her to stop shivering, Wheeler,” he growled. “I don’t attack children.”

    That’s one way.

“So,” Yami said, while Tea took a breath of relief. “Kaiba. What danger do you see that we do not?”

You aren’t going to like it.

I don’t know what Seto found but I have the feeling you aren’t going to like it.

  2. This is actually, pretty interesting when you just look at the body language. Serenity and Mokuba are ‘cubs’ by default. Everyone in the group would put blood on the ground to protect them. (In Bakura’s case it’s an excuse but he’d do it.) Serenity gave Bakura a face saving excuse to back down. Huh. Does their body language convey a group that is the forerunner/in charge or does it convey that theirbon their own? Who looks like they’re in charge, and where do outside observers think they can force schisms in the group?

  3. Some how this has the feeling of the part of a movie where you almost know what’s going to happen next, and your are bouncing in your seat in anticipation because you know it will be spectacular

  4. “What did we ever do to you to make you hate us this much?”

“You exist. You’re happy. Sometimes you try to make me happy. I can’t let that happen.”

    “But why!?”

“I’ve worked damn hard to build myself into a brooding, cool guy and you aren’t going to ruin it now. Do you know how hard it is to set up a glower like this? You can’t just dive in, there’s daily stretches.”

“He’s right, I make Ryou do them every day so I can glower correctly when I take over.”

“Can you imagine what I’d look like in these clothes if I had an idiot grin like Wheeler? I’d look like Wheeler.”

    “Hey!”

“That’d be billions down the drain.”

“You spent billions on your clothes?”

“I had to invent a dozen new products to make my coats break the laws of physics. Anyway, I have a lot invested in my emo-ness, and you keep trying to ruin it!”
