Most of the time people associate lichens with old trees and stones – things that haven’t moved in a while. Since lichens are assumed to be very slow-growing. Sometimes that is true, but there are lichens that grow relatively fast. Here’s one on a bamboo stalk that’s no more than a year old.
Then again, Florida. Anything that can take advantage of ambient humidity will take over anything else that doesn’t move fast enough!
