The current use of drones across the planet should inspire some interesting worldbuilding. Not just in hypothetical uses of them in the future. (Though I’ve run across at least one series, Zone War by John Conroe, that looks interesting.) But the footage we get from drones, and how they’re used, gives writers a better feel for what characters could do or see any time they get up into the air. No matter what way they use to do it. Plotbunny: Library of Doomsday
I’m still not sure I could reliably write a LitRPG. But a few days ago I got hit with an image of a librarian guy trying to survive a couple years after a System Apocalypse, being threatened in his own library (where he’s hiding a Strange Person he wants to talk to) by some Adventurer-classed guys. On Writing: PTSD Bits
I’ve dumped a couple book samples lately; for various reasons, but one stuck out for something completely unrelated to unlikeable characters or implausible societies. And that was the author showing a character had PTSD by giving them a full-sensory override-present-reality flashback. Continue reading

Book Review: Dressed to Kill
Arrrrrgh.
Dressed to Kill, by Crown Fall. I’m giving this a solid 3 out of 5 stars, because despite weird typos in the second half of the book I was enjoying everything up to about the last two chapters. At which point the author very obviously railroaded the characters and apparently forgot the key point of their own worldbuilding.
Warning, there be spoilers ahead. Continue reading

Book Review: Dungeon Life
Okay, who’s up for a nice break from RL worries?
Dungeon Life, by Khenal. I’ll give this a solid 4.5 out of 5 stars; I could have gone for a little more depth in the town characters. But that’s a minor thing. This is a fun Halloween haunted house of a romp. A little bit scary at points, but mostly fun. Continue reading
Worldbuilding: Curses!
How do you break a curse?
Note, this is a valid question for SF as well as fantasy. Human nature being what it is, people will still curse each other and victims have to deal with the effects. Even if it’s “only” in your mind, it can still kill you, and will always make life more difficult. Continue reading
