Riverbank looks clear. Hei lowered the binoculars, careful not to move them through an angle that would catch a flash of sun. He’d confirmed the meeting place with Ichigo days ago, scouted it at various times and weather conditions, identified at least three potential escape routes including the river, pre-positioned and disguised rubber floats for the rest of the team in case they did need to take that route and he had to keep them at least partly insulated from any power release-
“You know this is just grabbing some food with friends.” In cover behind a tree with him and the other two, Huang straightened his string tie, and gave Hei a wry look. “If Doc Ishida’s right, you do get the whole friends idea.”
“I’m out of practice.” Hei looked aside. “Although I could be Li for the girls, Yuzu’s used to the cover in the store anyway….”
“Maybe less than you think.” Petting the black fur on her shoulder, Yin raised her head. “They’re Ichigo’s sisters. They’ll know how to look beyond the surface, into the heart.”
“And we’re back to the manga tropes,” Mao sighed. “Little one, you do know that in our world, defeat does not mean friendship? It means death. Quick if you’re lucky. Slow, if you’re really not.”
Yin blinked at the serious cat. “Hei defeated Section Four.”
“I knocked them out,” Hei corrected her. “And ran. No one wins a fight, Yin. You survive it, or escape.”
“…I know.” Yin’s lips twitched a little. “But I liked the faces Misaki made when she got your note.”
A/N: Because Hei would prepare for an afternoon picnic like imminent war. You never know, after all.
Hee.
Thanks.

Wait, wait! Yin was spying on Misaki when the note arrived?! *snrk* Pity she can’t share experience with the rest of them.
Also, Hei… XD

A cool drink with Yin in spying distance is a security breach…. 😉

Are coffee and noodle broth also security issues?

Depends on who makes the coffee. Trail-drivers coffee might not have enough water…. 😉

we saw karin and yuzu preparing to picnic in previous snippet, and now we see Hei and team do their preparations. ( loved the part where Yin added her observation)
now, what preparations is Ichigo making?

*Snrk* It’s Ichigo. Planning ahead is a work in progress.
…Besides. He had his fun cluing the rest of the gang in on the earth-bound spirit they missed.

Hei not only EXPECTS Murphy to crash this picnic, he’s attempting to PLAN for it! Why do I feel he a) won’t be disappointed and b) it’ll still hit from a side he didn’t expect?
Hei, you can never plan for Yuzu. She’s going to surprise you anywy. Heck, let’s just call that a Kurosaki family trait.

Because Murphy. 😉
Poor Hei. Coming down from constant high alert is not easy!

OTOH that just lets him transition those resources into the campaign to get the last piece of cake.
And you though keeping the Hell’s Gate from exploding was bloody. 😉

Don’t forget, Team Black Reaper may have managed a truce with Section 4, but the Syndicate probably also picked up the flare from BK-201 when he fried that Hollow. Eventually they’re gonna send someone to see if he’s still there to kill him if he is or track where he went if he’s made himself scarce. The last thing a would be Assassin would expect would be for a beat up old soccer ball kicked by a seemingly normal girl to hit with the force of a freight train 😉

Assassin never expect it from “normal” human. After all, there are no Contractors in Karakura. Nearly feel sorry for a poor guy the Syndicate sends. If he really shows up, he be in for an ugly awakening.

And the fact there aren’t is going to throw the Syndicate. The remaining members of whom are still scrambling to get access to Astronomics again… BK-201 was where?

identified at least three potential escape routes including the river
Which is why, as Himura Kenshin pointed out, that hitokiri traditionally favor rivers and riverbanks. For ease of escape.
“I’m out of practice.” Hei looked aside.
Very out of practice.
I doubt he has tried since he was twelve.
“They’re Ichigo’s sisters. They’ll know how to look beyond the surface, into the heart.”
Yin has a good point.
Karin especially has enough of suspicious mind that Li without hints of Hei would make her tense. She might not be able to pin down WHY she knows Li is dangerous the way Ichigo can but she will know.
Yuzu might not have the strongest second sight or spiritual power but she’s pretty good at empathy (or something like it) front. If absolutely nothing else, she would pick up on her twin’s tension. And she knows Karin wouldn’t tense up like without a good reason.
The only reason, picking up on the danger vibe Li Hei has, that Karin and Yuzu aren’t heading for the hills is because Ichi-nii trusts you (to a certain degree) and they know that their Ichi-nii would NEVER willingly allow someone who will hurt his sisters anywhere near them. Ichigo would die first.
“Little one, you do know that in our world, defeat does not mean friendship?
True enough.
But it does mean friendship with Ichigo a lot of the time. There are, of course, exceptions.

Trope: Wrong Genre-Savvy.

*G* Amplified by the fact that going anywhere near water and the Black Reaper is an extremely bad idea.
Hei may have tried to make friends. I suspect he was disabused of the notion quickly, though.
(Let’s not get into Amber. Eep.)
The twins aren’t going to be surprised. After all, they knew Ichigo was avoiding something about that mess with the Hollow. 😉

And harshly.
And since Hei isn’t stupid, he didn’t need the lesson more than once. Especially next time it might not stop at harsh but proceed straight to lethal.
The twins aren’t going to be surprised.
Didn’t think they would be. They, as you pointed, know something went down with that Hollow that Ichigo wasn’t saying and that his usual friends WEREN’T involved. But his new friends just might have . . .
Just saying that I don’t think they will buy Li without any hints of Hei entirely over the long term. Hei got away with Li in the grocery store because it was Yuzu and she knew her Ichi-nii was nearby and he seemed to know this person . . .
Also since he is friends with Ichigo, the twins are probably expecting him and the rest to be odd somehow. Ichigo doesn’t have normal friends.

Ishida: “Yin, you have shown a noticeable improvement, one of your recent activities has done a better than usual job of being engaging.”
Yin: “I liked the faces Misaki made when she got Hei’s note.”
Ishida: “I see. Well the proper course of treatment will be to discombobulate Misaki as much as possible. Doctor’s orders. In accordance with that, I will be writing you a Doctor’s note to that effect. You may show it to her to increase the impact.”
